Effective supervisions are an important part of staff development, but in many settings they are not used in a way that best supports staff. Both the supervisor and supervisee need to be thoroughly prepared and motivated or the supervision just isn’t going to be effective. This means back to the good old days of Homework – or in our case, preparing your responses and areas of development. With this in place, the supervisions can run smoothly and effectively; which is precisely the aim of this course.
Having practitioners prepare for their supervisions before they start is good news for everyone involved. It means that supervisions can be quicker and better organised meaning they cause less disruption on staffing ratios. More importantly, they have more impact; practitioners shower faster development and then children in the setting make better progress. The reason for this is simple, staff have a chance to think about their development and that of their key children, rather than having to do this on the spur of the moment.
This course is designed for anyone that wants to get more out of their supervisions. But if you lead supervisions you may find that Effective Supervisions – Peer Observations is more suitable and will give you a whole set of paperwork to make your life even easier!
This Effective Supervisions course covers:
- Helping practitioners prepare for supervisions
- Putting practitioners in charge of their own development
- Self reflection as a development tool
- Supervisions and key children – making a difference
