Music Matters – Speech, Language and Communication

In this workshop Early Childhood Music Specialist Nicola Burke will demonstrate how music can be used to support the development of speech, language and communication in the early years. In an interactive, fun and informal way this workshop will explore musical Interactions, songs, games and rhymes which specifically encourage the development of communication. No previous musical experience or knowledge is required.
This 2 hour course will cover:
- Songs and musical activities which support speech, language and communication.
- Effective planning for musical activities linked to the Early Years Foundation Stage.
- The importance of using music to support child development.
Transfer of learning into the workplace:
The workshop can help practitioners to develop their understanding of the important role that music can play in the development of language and communication as well as offer them new musical activities and songs for them to share and enjoy with the children they care for.
This fantastic new training course is delivered by Nicola Burke – an early childhood music specialist with a strong background in this area. Nicola has a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Music Studies from the Centre for Research in Early Childhood. She has a worked extensively as a music specialist in a range of early years settings and on a range of action research projects across the country.
