Summer 2016 Olympic Crafts and more!

Olympics logoThe academic year is already over which means we have a month to get creative before the long days begin again. There’s a few dates to mention this month such as ‘Tell a Joke Day‘ on 16th, ‘Pluto Demoted Day‘ (the 10th anniversary!) on 24th and ‘Slinky Day‘ on 30th. But – the big thing going on this month is, of course, the Olympics! We’ve got just over two weeks of sports on the television so why not get some sporty crafts going on at home?

I’d suggest creating your own Olympics at home consisting of a few races, some Olympic crafts and even create your own family anthem! Here are a few examples of what you could put together for your Olympics. Remember to create your Olympic Torch and Olympic Mascots too!

Olympic Passport – great to get the kids thinking. They can design their own flag along with taking their passport on their Olympic journey. Here is a website which talks all about the things you could include in your own Olympic Games such as events, hydration, location etc. Events might include Straw Javelin, Paper Plate Ring Toss, Balloon Tennis or a Zig Zag Track. Remember to add some water based activities (in the bath?).

Other snacks may include making your own ice cream or creating smoothies (there are hundreds of recipes online; here is my favourite). Need some new paintings for the wall? Get the kids creating Olympic themed paintings, if you don’t have tubes you could use paper cups!

So you’ve got the kids to compete, build and create – now comes the reward. A gold medal – handmade by them of course! The instructions for this can be found here along with loads of photos. They look amazing and what a way to finish the Summer off.
